Charger port issue Samsung Galaxy S?

I have to wiggle and jiggle the cord and connection to get the charger to work. Is this. someting I can fix on my own? What should I try? Is it cheaper to just file a claim and pay $50.00 to get a new phone? Its almost a year old.
